Cody Pools San Antonio North

Texas does not have a single statewide “pool builder” license; requirements vary by trade and by locality. In San Antonio you should expect a contractor to pull city permits and submit plans for new pools or major remodels, and electrical or plumbing work typically must be done by appropriately licensed or registered tradespeople. Before hiring, ask the contractor for: proof they will obtain required City of San Antonio permits, a copy of their general liability insurance and proof of workers’ compensation or an insurance waiver, and references for recent local jobs. Verify permits and inspections with the City of San Antonio Development Services (permit records are public) and check contractor reviews/complaints with the Better Business Bureau and the Texas Attorney General’s consumer protection resources.

Typical build time depends on pool type and scope: fiberglass shells are often fastest (several weeks plus lead time for the shell), vinyl‑liner pools can take a few weeks to a couple of months, and concrete/gunite pools commonly take 8–16 weeks from start to finish. Factors that lengthen the schedule include permitting and plan review time, weather (heavy rains or extreme heat can slow work), soil conditions or site access, custom features (waterfalls, grottos, extensive decking), and availability of materials and subcontractors. Ask for a written schedule with key milestones, an explanation of permitting steps, and a contingency plan for weather or inspection delays.

San Antonio’s hot summers increase evaporation, chemical demand, and filter run time, so routine maintenance is important. Expect weekly tasks such as testing and adjusting sanitizer, pH, and alkalinity; skimming and vacuuming; and checking pump/filter operation. Shock and algae treatments may be needed more often in summer. Consider a properly sized, energy‑efficient circulation pump (variable‑speed pumps save energy), a good filtration system, and a pool cover or solar cover to reduce evaporation and heat loss. While winters are mild, occasional freezes can occur—basic winterizing steps (lowering water level for equipment, protecting exposed plumbing) may be wise for cold snaps. Always follow manufacturer recommendations for equipment care, keep records of service, and confirm that your contractor or service company provides written maintenance plans and clarifies any equipment or finish warranties (manufacturer warranties typically cover equipment; structural warranties vary). Also ensure your pool barrier, gates and latches meet local safety codes.
