Conservation Construction of Houston Replacement Windows

Texas does not have a single statewide residential contractor license for most trades, but local jurisdictions can require registration and permits. In Houston you should confirm the contractor pulls required building permits and follows local code and inspection processes, especially for structural work or openings that affect egress or wind resistance. Also verify the contractor carries general liability insurance and workers' compensation as appropriate, and ask for references and proof of any manufacturer installer certifications.

Choose products rated for hot‑humid climates and for the local wind/impact exposure: double‑pane units with low‑E coatings and proper gas fills for energy efficiency, corrosion‑resistant frames and hardware for humidity, and wind‑ or impact‑rated windows/doors where required near the coast or in high‑wind areas. Look for NFRC energy ratings, ENERGY STAR selections for the hot‑humid zone when applicable, and products tested to AAMA/ASTM performance standards. Proper flashing, sealing, and installation are equally important to prevent air and water infiltration in Houston’s climate.

Your written contract should list the scope of work, exact products (manufacturer, model, size and performance ratings such as U‑factor and SHGC), installation method, permit responsibility, project timeline, payment schedule, cleanup and disposal, and procedures for change orders. Confirm both the manufacturer’s product warranty and a contractor workmanship warranty in writing (including duration and any exclusions), and get documentation of who will handle warranty service. Keep copies of permits and final inspection approvals and don’t pay remaining balances until work is inspected and you’re satisfied.
