Floors 2 Luv

Texas does not require a statewide license specifically for flooring contractors, but local rules and permits may apply. The City of Houston may require building permits for work that affects structure, electrical or plumbing, or for large remodels. Ask the contractor whether they will obtain required permits and inspections, and request proof of business registration, general liability insurance, and any applicable local trade registration. If your project involves asbestos, lead paint, or other hazardous materials (common in older homes), abatement must be handled by certified specialists.

Because Houston is hot and humid, choose materials that resist moisture and dimensional change: tile, luxury vinyl plank/board, sealed concrete, and quality engineered hardwood tend to perform better than solid hardwood over concrete slabs. Proper installation practices are critical: test slab moisture (in-situ probes, calcium chloride, or relative-humidity tests), allow materials to acclimate, use recommended vapor barriers or underlayments, provide correct expansion gaps, and follow manufacturer installation instructions. Good subfloor preparation and moisture mitigation will reduce risks of cupping, buckling, and mold in Houston’s climate.

Get a detailed written estimate that lists materials (brand and product), installation method, square footage, prep work, removal/disposal, permit responsibility, start and completion dates, and a payment schedule. Ask for proof of general liability insurance and whether the crew is covered by workers’ compensation or are independent subcontractors. Request references or photos of past work and any manufacturer training or certifications the installer holds. Clarify manufacturer warranties versus the installer’s workmanship warranty in writing, how change orders are handled, and whether you will receive lien releases when final payment is made.
