Hartz Pest Control

Yes. Commercial pesticide applicators and pest control businesses in Texas are regulated by the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA); ask the company for their TDA license number and proof of insurance. Also verify written estimates/service agreements, ask about technician training and experience with Houston pests (e.g., subterranean termites, mosquitoes, roaches), and request information on products, re-treatment policies and any safety/re-entry instructions.

A proper service begins with a thorough inspection that identifies the pest, entry points, conducive conditions (moisture, wood-to-soil contact, standing water) and severity. Treatments vary by pest: perimeter sprays and baits for ants/roaches, larvicides or source reduction and barrier treatments for mosquitoes, and soil treatments, bait stations or localized wood treatments for subterranean termites. Expect a written treatment plan, recommended habitat changes, and follow-up visits when part of a service contract; complete eradication isn’t always immediate, especially with colonies or heavy infestations, so integrated pest management (inspection + sanitation + treatment) is typical.

Follow the applicator’s written preparation and safety instructions — common steps include removing food and pet dishes, covering aquariums, securing or removing pets, and clearing clutter where technicians will work. Observe label re-entry times and any ventilation recommendations; labels and the applicator’s instructions determine how long people and pets should avoid treated areas. Because Houston’s climate promotes year-round pest activity, ask the company for post-treatment care, signs of exposure to watch for, and written information (product labels or safety data sheets) for any pesticides they plan to use.
