Kindred Pest Control

Yes. In Texas, companies and the applicators who treat structures must follow state pesticide laws administered by the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA). Ask the company for its TDA company registration and the applicator’s license or certification number, and verify those on the TDA website. Also confirm the contractor carries general liability insurance and workers’ compensation (or owned subcontractor coverage) and ask for references or local reviews. Licensed applicators are trained to use EPA‑registered products and to follow label and state requirements.

A reputable contractor will start with an inspection to identify the pest, the extent of infestation, entry points and contributing conditions (moisture, vegetation, debris). Treatment often combines targeted interior work (baits, crack-and-crevice treatments) and exterior perimeter work (barrier sprays, vegetation trimming, exclusion). In Houston’s warm, humid climate focus is usually on ants, roaches, rodents, mosquitoes and termites. Prepare by removing pet food and open dishes, covering aquariums, washing or bagging bedding if treating for bed bugs, clearing clutter and moving furniture away from walls if requested. Follow the technician’s specific re‑entry and ventilation instructions — many products allow immediate re‑entry after areas dry, but instructions can vary by product and situation.

Costs and number of visits depend on the pest species, infestation severity, property size and the treatment method (one-time service vs ongoing maintenance). For example, routine ant/roach or mosquito programs are often offered as monthly or quarterly services; eliminating bed bugs or a heavy rodent infestation typically requires multiple visits and a coordinated plan. Structural termite treatment is a separate, larger service that may include inspection, baiting or liquid barriers and periodic monitoring. Ask for a written estimate and treatment plan that lists follow‑up visits, retreatment policy and what’s included so you can compare proposals. Seasonal factors in Houston (year‑round warmth and high humidity) mean some pests recur, so many homeowners choose preventive maintenance rather than a single visit.
