Kresta Roofing

Texas does not have a statewide roofing contractor license, but local rules and building permits still apply. Before hiring, check City of San Antonio permit and registration requirements for roof work. Always ask a contractor for proof of general liability insurance (and workers’ compensation or a clear statement if they don’t carry it), references, and a written contract that states who will pull permits and obtain inspections. Consumer protections such as the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act still apply, so verify credentials, check reviews, and get everything in writing.

Document damage with photos and notes, then contact your insurance company to start the claim. Get at least two to three written estimates from reputable local contractors — beware of storm‑chasing companies that appear after a storm. A contractor can meet your insurance adjuster to explain the scope, but don’t sign away control of your claim (for example, assignments of benefits) without understanding the consequences. Make sure the estimate includes materials, underlayment, decking repairs, permit fees, disposal, and any required inspections. Confirm who will handle permits and inspections and keep receipts and a signed contract for your insurer.

Major factors are roof size and pitch, roofing material (asphalt shingles, architectural shingles, metal, tile), number of existing shingle layers to remove, extent of decking repairs, ventilation and insulation upgrades, local permit and disposal fees, and HOA approvals if applicable. San Antonio’s climate (heat, UV exposure, occasional hail and wind) can influence material choice and lead times. Typical tear‑off and installation for an average single‑family home often takes 1–3 days on site, but allow additional days or weeks for permitting, material delivery, inspections, and any unexpected repairs. Ask about both manufacturer warranties on materials and the contractor’s workmanship warranty, and get warranty details in writing.
