Palm Pool Builders

Texas does not have a single statewide residential pool contractor license; local permit and registration requirements vary. In San Antonio, start by contacting the City of San Antonio Development Services to confirm permit and inspection rules and whether a contractor must register locally. Ask any contractor for proof of: current liability insurance, workers’ compensation or an exemption, references and a portfolio of recent projects. Verify permits were pulled for past builds when possible, check local reviews/complaints, and get a written contract that spells out scope, timeline, payment schedule and warranties.

A typical in-ground pool project often takes several weeks to a few months from permit to completion; many jobs fall in roughly an 8–16 week range, but timelines vary. Key factors that affect duration are permit processing time, weather (heavy rain or extreme heat), site conditions (rock, high water table, expansive clay soils common in the region), complexity and custom features (waterfalls, spas, extensive decking), subcontractor scheduling and change orders. Ask your contractor for a written schedule with milestones and contingencies for weather and permitting.

San Antonio’s hot, humid climate increases evaporation and chemical demand and can encourage algae, so routine water testing and balancing are essential. Expect ongoing tasks such as running and maintaining the filter and pump, periodic backwashing, chemical additions or salt chlorinator maintenance, and seasonal checks of equipment and seals. Consider energy-saving equipment (variable-speed pumps, LED lights, efficient heaters or solar options) and a pool cover to reduce evaporation and heat loss. Also be mindful of local water restrictions during droughts which may affect refills. Get a clear service plan and equipment warranties in writing and ask about recommended maintenance frequency and typical operating costs before signing a contract.
