Pools Infinite

Ask the contractor for proof of liability insurance and workers’ compensation (or an appropriate insurance waiver), a current business license, and any trade licenses they hold. Require that the contractor pull all required permits and schedule inspections with the City of Houston (or Harris County) — ask for permit numbers and copies of inspection sign-offs. Get a written contract with scope, payment schedule, and a list of subcontractors, and verify references and online reviews. If you’re unsure about a contractor’s credentials, contact the City of Houston Permitting Center or your local permitting office to confirm permit requirements and contractor registration rules for your neighborhood.

Typical timelines vary by pool type: fiberglass shells often take a few weeks (site prep, delivery, set, and equipment hookup commonly 2–6 weeks), vinyl‑liner builds typically take 6–12 weeks, and concrete/gunite (custom) pools commonly take 8–16 weeks or more. Common causes of delays in Houston include permit review times, heavy rain or flooding (including hurricane season), high water table or poor soils that require extra site work, custom features and change orders, and equipment or material lead times. Concrete pools also need curing and multiple inspection stages, which add time. Ask your contractor for a realistic schedule, milestones, and their plan for weather or permit delays.

Houston’s hot, humid climate increases water temperature, evaporation, and algae risk, so expect regular maintenance: weekly testing and balancing of pH, chlorine (or salt system maintenance), alkalinity and calcium hardness; skimming and brushing; filter cleanings; periodic shock treatments; and winter checks. Many homeowners run the circulation pump several hours daily (variable‑speed pumps save energy compared with single‑speed). Typical costs vary: DIY chemical and basic supply costs can be $30–100 per month, while professional weekly service often ranges roughly $100–300 per month depending on size and services. Expect occasional equipment expenses (pump, filter, heater, salt cell) and repairs — salt chlorination cells typically need replacement every few years, and pumps/controls can last 5–15 years depending on use. To limit costs and water loss, consider a pool cover, energy‑efficient equipment, and regular inspections; always get written estimates for recurring service and replacement items.
