Precision Pool Restoration

Texas does not have a single statewide license specifically for residential pool contractors, but certain trades involved in pool work (electrical and plumbing) must be performed by licensed electricians and plumbers. The City of Houston requires building permits and inspections for most new pool installations and major alterations, and there may also be permits or approvals for fencing, gas lines or electrical service changes. Before hiring, confirm the contractor will obtain all required Houston permits and inspections, verify they carry general liability insurance (and workers’ comp if applicable), and ask for copies of any required trade licenses or local registrations.

Houston’s hot, humid, and sunny climate increases evaporation, chemical demand and algae pressure, so pools typically need more frequent water testing and filtration than in cooler climates. Choose appropriately sized pumps and filters (energy-efficient or variable-speed pumps are common to reduce operating costs during long swim seasons), and consider upgrades such as UV/Ozone or properly managed salt systems if desired. Pool finishes, tile and covers should be selected for sun and humidity durability. Heavy rain, high humidity and occasional cold snaps (rare freezes) also mean you should plan for storm/drainage management and occasional winter care; your contractor can recommend a maintenance schedule tailored to local conditions.

A clear, itemized written estimate should list scope of work, materials and model numbers for equipment, start and completion dates, payment schedule, permit responsibilities, and change-order procedures. It should specify who obtains permits and schedules inspections, and note which warranties apply (manufacturer warranties for equipment and any workmanship warranty from the contractor). Ask for proof of insurance, references, examples of completed projects, and a lien waiver policy for final payment. Avoid large upfront payments and get all promises in writing so responsibilities and timelines are clear.
