Priority Roofing

Texas does not have a state-level roofing license, so there is no single statewide roofing license to check. However, local rules and permit requirements still apply. In San Antonio most re-roof and major roof-repair jobs require a city building permit and inspections, so confirm your contractor will obtain permits and arrange inspections. Always ask for proof of business registration, current general liability insurance, and workers’ compensation or evidence that subcontractors are insured. Check references, online reviews, and whether the contractor is familiar with local code and inspection processes.

San Antonio’s climate—hot sun, high UV, occasional severe storms, and wind—makes material selection and proper installation important. Look for products with UV resistance, good ventilation and attic insulation, and wind and impact ratings from manufacturers. Common options: architectural asphalt shingles with high wind/UV ratings, metal roofing (durable, reflective, long‑lasting), and clay or concrete tile (durable but heavier). Consider “cool roof” or reflective options to reduce heat gain. Whatever you choose, make sure the contractor installs per manufacturer specifications (nailing patterns, underlayment, ventilation) because proper installation affects performance and keeps manufacturer warranties valid.

Many homeowner policies cover sudden damage from perils like wind or hail, subject to your policy exclusions and deductible. Report damage to your insurer promptly and document the roof with photos. Obtain multiple written estimates from reputable local roofers and keep copies. A good contractor will inspect with you, provide a detailed scope and written estimate, help you understand what is needed for permits and inspections, and coordinate with your insurance adjuster if you choose. Avoid paying the entire contract up front, get a written timeline and warranty for workmanship, and secure final lien releases when the job is complete. Be cautious of high‑pressure storm‑chaser contractors who appear immediately after storms—prefer an established local company with references.
