Quarles Windows

Texas does not have a single statewide residential license specifically for window and door installers the way it does for electricians or plumbers, so licensing requirements can vary by city. In Fort Worth you should: check with the City of Fort Worth Building Inspection/Permits office about local registration and permit requirements for your project; ask the contractor for proof of general liability insurance (and workers’ compensation if they have employees); request references and recent job photos; and look for industry credentials such as manufacturer certification or membership in trade organizations. Always get a written contract that lists scope, materials, timeline, permits, and payment terms.

Fort Worth has hot, humid summers and occasional severe storms and hail, so choose products that balance solar control and durability. Look for NFRC-rated performance numbers (U‑factor for insulating value and SHGC for solar heat gain) and consider ENERGY STAR–qualified products appropriate for your local climate zone. Features to consider: low‑E coatings and insulated (double or triple) glazing with argon/krypton fill to reduce heat gain and improve comfort; frames with proper thermal breaks (vinyl, fiberglass, wood or thermally improved aluminum); durable seals and drainage for humidity; and impact- or hail-resistant glass or laminated glazing if storm damage is a concern. Ask the contractor for NFRC labels and manufacturer test documentation for wind/hail resistance if relevant.

Permit needs depend on the scope: like‑for‑like sash replacements often have simpler requirements, while full-frame replacements, changes to openings, or egress alterations typically require a building permit and inspection. Most reputable contractors will obtain permits for you; confirm who is responsible and that inspections are scheduled. Timelines vary: simple replacements can be completed in a day or two per home; larger jobs may take several days to weeks—factor in product lead times (commonly several weeks for custom units). Get written warranties that separately cover manufacturer product defects (glass, frame, hardware) and installer workmanship, and read exclusions and transferability terms. Also document payment terms, a completion checklist, and how warranty claims will be handled.
