Rod Roofing, LLC

Texas does not issue a statewide roofing contractor license. Local jurisdictions can require permits, registrations or business licenses, so check City of San Antonio Development Services for specific permitting rules. Regardless of state licensing, always ask a contractor for proof of general liability insurance, ask about workers’ compensation or a certificate/waiver, verify local references, and get a written contract before work begins.

San Antonio experiences hot, sunny summers and occasional hail and high winds, so choose materials rated for high UV and heat exposure and with adequate wind and impact resistance (impact-resistant/Class 4 products are an option in hail-prone areas). Common durable choices include quality architectural asphalt shingles and metal roofing. Understand two types of coverage: the manufacturer’s warranty (material defects) and the contractor’s workmanship warranty; get both in writing and review terms such as prorations, exclusions and transferability.

Get at least three written estimates that list scope of work, specific materials (brand and model), removal and disposal of old roofing, any anticipated decking repairs, permit fees, start and completion dates, payment schedule, and detailed warranty information. The contract should also require the contractor to obtain permits, carry insurance, provide lien waivers upon final payment, and include a clear change-order process. Avoid large upfront cash-only payments and verify the contractor’s local references and physical address to reduce risk from out-of-area storm-chasing crews.
