Sanchez Pools Inc

Texas does not maintain a single statewide “pool contractor” license, but many of the trades used on pools (electrical, plumbing) do require licensed professionals. San Antonio also requires building permits and inspections for new pools, major repairs, and many equipment changes. Before hiring, ask the contractor to: confirm they will pull required City of San Antonio permits; show proof of general liability insurance and either worker’s compensation or a verified exemption; provide trade license numbers for any electrical or plumbing work; give references and photos of recent projects; and sign a written contract that spells out permit responsibility, scope, schedule, payment terms, and lien-waiver procedures.

San Antonio’s long, hot summers, high UV exposure and occasional heavy rains mean you should prioritize evaporation control, UV- and heat-resistant materials, and efficient equipment. Consider: energy-efficient pumps and properly sized filtration to reduce run time and water loss; covers (solar or thermal) to cut evaporation and heating costs; finishes and decking that resist fading and heat; corrosion-resistant equipment if your yard is humid or near sprinklers; and automated chemical controls or salt-chlorine systems to stabilize sanitizer levels under heavy bather load and heat. Also plan for regular maintenance (water chemistry, filtration cleaning, leak checks) and check local water-use rules—periodic drought restrictions can affect filling and backwashing.

A clear, written contract should include an itemized scope of work, materials and finishes, equipment brands/models (or performance specs), start and completion dates (with allowance for permits and weather), payment schedule tied to milestones, change-order procedures, cleanup responsibilities, who pulls permits, and what manufacturer and workmanship warranties apply. Typical timelines vary by project complexity: a new in‑ground pool commonly takes multiple weeks once permits are issued (often 8–14 weeks for straightforward projects, longer for complex features), while smaller renovations or equipment swaps can take days to a few weeks. Permit review and corrections can add time. Get at least three bids, verify insurance and references, avoid large upfront payments, and request manufacturer warranties in writing for major equipment plus a written workmanship warranty from the contractor.
