Select Door & Hardware, LLC

Texas does not have a single statewide license specifically for window and door installers in most cases, but some related trades (electrical, HVAC, plumbing) do require licenses. Many cities and counties require contractor registration, permits or business licenses, so verify local requirements for Fort Worth. Always ask a contractor for proof of general liability insurance and workers' compensation (or an exemption), check references and photos of past work, request a written estimate and contract, and confirm whether they are a manufacturer-authorized installer if you want factory-backed warranty coverage. You can also check local building department records, the Better Business Bureau, and online reviews before hiring.

Permits are commonly required when openings are enlarged, structural framing is modified, new exterior doors affect egress, or new units must meet local energy or safety codes; some like-for-like replacements may also require a permit depending on the scope. The Fort Worth building inspections office enforces local codes and issues permits and inspections—your contractor should pull necessary permits and arrange inspections. Before work begins, contact Fort Worth Development Services or the building inspections office to confirm permit requirements for your specific project and keep permit records with your home files.

Choose products with good thermal performance and proper materials for Texas heat and humidity: review NFRC labels (U‑factor for heat loss, SHGC for solar heat gain) and consider Low‑E coatings and inert gas fills to reduce cooling loads. Durable frames (vinyl, fiberglass, treated wood, or thermally broken aluminum), high‑quality weatherstripping, proper flashing and installation are critical to prevent air and water infiltration during heavy storms. Because North Texas can have hail and severe thunderstorms, consider tempered or laminated glass where appropriate, and verify both manufacturer warranties and a written workmanship warranty from the installer.
