Staycation Fiberglass Pools

Yes. New pools and major renovations typically require building permits and inspections from the City of San Antonio, and electrical or plumbing work usually must be performed or inspected by appropriately licensed trades. Requirements vary by project, so ask your contractor to pull permits, show proof of any required state or local licenses, and provide current general liability insurance and worker coverage. Also check HOA rules and local setback or barrier requirements before work starts.

San Antonio’s hot summers and strong sun increase evaporation and sanitizer demand, so expect more frequent testing and adjustments of pH, chlorine (or salt-chlorine levels), total alkalinity and stabilizer. Good circulation, correctly sized filtration, and routine cleaning (skimming, vacuuming, filter backwash) are important. Consider a variable‑speed pump to save energy and run the pump enough hours for full turnover (manufacturer/installer can calculate). Winterizing is usually minimal compared with colder climates, but you should protect equipment and plumbing during occasional freezes (e.g., insulation, keep pumps running, or follow contractor guidance). Regular professional inspections—especially of heaters, automation, and structural components—are recommended at least annually.

Get everything in writing: a detailed scope of work, materials and equipment brands, a clear payment schedule, project timeline, and how change orders are handled. Verify the contractor’s local references and recent project photos, confirm they will obtain required permits and coordinate inspections, and ask to see proof of insurance and any required licenses. Ask about manufacturer warranties for equipment and what contractor workmanship warranties (duration and coverage) they provide, and who handles warranty service locally. Finally, get multiple bids so you can compare scope, materials, and timelines rather than price alone.
