Prioritize products with appropriate wind and impact ratings for your area, good UV/heat reflectivity if energy efficiency matters, and make sure the roof system includes proper attic ventilation and insulation to reduce heat and moisture issues.

Policies vary, but homeowner insurance often covers sudden storm damage (wind, hail) subject to your deductible and policy terms. Have the contractor document damage with photos, provide a detailed written estimate and coordinate inspections with your insurer; don’t sign over insurance benefits or pay full balance until work is complete and you have lien waivers. Avoid unsolicited storm-chasing contractors—hire a local, licensed/registered roofer with good references, verify their insurance, and confirm required permits and final inspections are obtained.
